Bayern Munich have reached a verbal agreement with Juventus to sign the centre-back Matthijs de Ligt for a fee that could reach €80m. The Serie A club are guaranteed to receive €70m and the add-ons vary in how likely they are to be achieved.
Matthijs de Ligt who plays his game for Juventus is said to leave the Old Lady’s to start a new life at Munich for the upcoming season.
Since his departure from Ajax, De Ligt hasn’t been of himself like he was under his former boss Erik ten Hag. A move to Munich will be good for the Netherland star.
De Ligt, who had also been wanted by Chelsea, joined Juventus from Ajax in 2019 and has played 117 times for the club. The 22-year-old is poised to become the second Netherlands international to join Bayern this summer after the midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
Matthijs de Ligt is back in Turin and training with Juventus, but maybe not for much longer. According to Italian journalist Romeo Agresti, considered quite reliable, Bayern Munich want to finalize a deal for the Dutchman before Juve fly out on their US preseason tour on Wednesday. This leaves just over 48 hours for the two sides to reach an agreement, if the transfer is to be announced in that time frame.
According to the same report, the two clubs are getting closer to each other’s valuations. Agresti quotes a transfer fee of around 80 to 90 million euros — probably a slight overestimate, since his sources clearly come from the Italian side of the negotiating table.
Bayern have a decent amount of money on hand thanks to selling Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona, which is good because De ligt is sure to be a wildly expensive signing. ♥
